My name is Nigel and the picture above is of me. As I write this on Sunday September 12th 2010 I am sixty years old and was in the British Army and English Police. I “retired” in 2002 and have what many would call a good pension. I currently work in a school so that I can pass on my life experiences to the students there in the hope that they will realise that they can have the life they choose if they learn how to go about it. Happy as I am, all of this is not enough for me because I want to be in a financial position to help my daughters and grandchildren. In order to create the necessary wealth, I have decided to do it on line as the start up costs are far less than a physical business.

This web site has been put here so that I can record my efforts to learn how to earn money from internet marketing as I know next to nothing about the subject. I am in the process of doing The Challenge which is a free course on internet marketing. It advocates various tools that will help to make life easier in that it is better to work smart and hard than it is to just work hard. I will explain my use of these tools we go along and hope that you will pick and choose whatever (if anything) suits the way you would like to work and earn money. One major thing I have already taken to my heart is offering value. If potential buyers of any goods or services believe that they will get more out of those goods or services than they are paying for them, these folk will be happy. At worst they will not buy but believe that the seller has at least been honest and so may either come back for a second look at a later date or even recommend me to family, friends or acquaintances if any of those people mention something to do with what is offered. This site will hopefully offer you value in that I will be the one to make mistakes and you can avoid making the same ones.

One of the things we will need is somewhere to put any web sites that we want to show to the world. One thing we can do is have a site that is hosted by a third party and this is often the cheapest option as some of them are absolutely free. The drawbacks then could possibly be that the host goes out of business or we have to give up the rights to the content we provide. Here is the web host that I use:-

I use Hostgator because they are very cost effective and have what is called cPanel to control my sites. Do not worry about the technical stuff at this time but suffice to say that cPanel is very handy for uploading our content. I will be adding something to the site every week as I learn so that over the course of time we will have a resource to look through that will have answers to all of our questions on how to earn some money from the internet.

I’ve Been a Bad Bad Boy

May 10th, 2011

One of the thngs I have learned is that one must be consistent in order to succeed at anything. As you can see, I have not been consistent because I have not ritten a post here since March. That is terruble! My “excuse” has to be that I have been busy with my job in school, my family and my attempt at internet marketing.

But, I have ignored this blog and this was supposed to be a record of how I succeed in my goal of earning money from the internet. Therefore, I am starting again. I am leaving the other posts on here just to let you know that I am being totaly honest, and, to remind myself just how easy it is to let things slide.

I will start with an apology. I am sorry that I have neglected my daily chores. I am not going to say this won’t happen again but I willmake a note to myslef to write something every day unless we are away on holiday or at a family event.

What have I learned since March? Well, for one thing this internet marketing (IM) malarkey takes a LOT longer than people with products to sell would have you believe. I did The Challenge www.challenge.co last year and have a web site I started then still not ranked Number 1 on Google. I have posted articles to the usual sites such a Squidoo with links to my site. I have paid for an “article disseminator” in order to build more links to it more quickly. More recently I have even hired somebody to build links for me. So far, the site has not got to the top of Google despite my efforts. having said that, the market I chose was a bit more competitive than The Challenge recommended.

So, Lesson 1 is the knowledge that earning money from internet marketing will take considerable time and some resources. You need to kno this up front. I have been doing many of the right things since last August and am still out of pocket. That said, I have been told and believe that many people give up just before they become successful. I started taking my IM duties more seriously in November 2010 and promised myself that I would give it a full year before I made my decision as to whether to carry on with it or not.

Six months and no profit would put a lot of folk off. I am made of sterner stuff than that, and, I have not spent anywhere near as much as it would cost to set up a bricks & mortar business.

I’ll post again soon.

The Basics. Finding a Niche

October 29th, 2010

If like me, you want to earn money from the internet, you need to choose the way you want to do it. I have decided to start off with affiliate marketing and as I gain experience, to move on to buying, doing up & selling web sites and eventually producing my own products of some description. First off we must find a niche to work in. It must have people interested in the subject, this is called traffic. It must have people willing to buy stuff associated with the niche. It must not have too much competition so that we have a chance against them. Using Google and other free tools is fine, but, very time consuming.

I have found a piece of software the cuts the time spent doing research right down. This nifty bit of kit is called Market Samurai  and they give a free trial. You pay a one off fee to buy it and they will keep the software updated as changes occur in the way research is carried out over the course of time. I have had my copy for over two years now and am very pleased with it. I used it on a PC and a laptop. I had to format the hard drive a couple of times and reactivate Market Samurai. Then I decided I didn’t like PCs and Microsoft so I bought an iMac and put Market Saurai on to it. Later still, I bought a Macbook Air and when I tried to activate Market Samurai, it told me I had run out of activations. I contacted their helpdesk and they allowed me another go. I have found the people there to be very honest and helpful and the software is excellent value. Buy your copy of Market Samurai HERE and I am sure you will not regret it. There are videos on their web site that show you how to use it and get best results.
